March on foot - acting together as civilians against violence and exclusion

Címkék: march on foot international press

Date of the march: 3-11 October, 2009 (Jászladány - Budapest)

Kállai László, president of Jászsági Roma Civil Rights Organisation, is coming to Budapest in order to give his petition in person to Sólyom László, President of the Republic. He asks Mr. Sólyom to act for a united nation and to eliminate educational segregation.

Kállai also asks the Hungarian Roma to take part in the action and put pressure on the President of the Republic to achieve a change in the situation of Roma. Kállai László and his followers walk all the way from Jászladány to Budapest to symbolize the poor living condition of the Roma and the long way the Hungarian society still has to go to solve this problem. According to our plans, 15 people will leave from Jászladány to Budapest. The travellers will stop in 9 settlements, having a discussion and a forum with the local Roma people. As it is estimated, a 100 sympathizer will join the marching team on the way. After a week of march, the travellers will arrive to Hősök tere, Budapest, where another couple of thousand people from all over the country will join them. We inform all the Roma self-governments and civil organisations about the action. At the same time we won’t let any political organisation have the floor during the demonstration. It is important to emphasise that the demonstration is not alliable to any political party.

The Jászsági Roma Civil Rights Organisation calls Roma and non-Roma fellows to act together. We organise a march against violance and exclusion from Jászladány to Budapest leaving on the 3rd of October 2009. Our goal is to raise awareness. In our petition we are framing our experiences, wounds and ideas for a solution.
